SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. (KOLO) – An unregistered sex offender died while being transported to jail on Wednesday, Dec. 31, according to a Lyon County Sheriff’s Facebook post.

The Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Task Force responded to a Dayton area home following an anonymous tip about a sex offender who had failed to register as required by law.

Task force members arrested the person.

While the person was being taken to the Lyon County Jail for booking, the transporting deputy stopped at the Silver Springs Substation to adjust the subject’s restraints and found the subject to be unresponsive, the post said.

Deputies immediately removed the person from the vehicle and initiated CPR.

When Central Lyon Fire personnel arrived, they took over performing lifesaving efforts.

Despite these efforts, the subject was pronounced deceased.

Surprised they didn’t name the person, who surely must have committed hundreds of other sex crimes while unregistered. [/sarc]

And, as customary, the following emailed to the story’s author:

Ms. O’Boyle:

Regarding the above mentioned article, I’m wondering why you didn’t at least overview the numerous sex crimes the person surely committed while unregistered. I would think that would certainly show the sex offense registry’s   value as a critical public safety tool. Have we not been led to believe that registration is key to preventing sex crime recidivism as well as first offenses? Because if the person in this story hadn’t committed any sex offenses while unregistered, I can’t help but wonder why the fact that he was unregistered is such a big deal. And in turn, the   actual   (vs. presumed) value of the sex offense registry in terms of its stated purpose and if there really is justification for the resources spent on it.

I hate articles like these. The headline is so dehumanizing. Just the language they used.

just a lil blood on the hands of the state of NV, glad I no longer goto NV casinos/tourism

Any bodycam and other video footage needs to be released to ensure accountability.

I wonder if this person was elderly/ disabled maybe he/she wasn’t healthy enough to drive to police station

Adjust the restraints? what the hell does that mean? What type of restraint could have been life threatening? Sounds like he was calling for help so they stopped to see what the problem was. I’ve been transported numerous times and nothing should have life threatening, usually just shackles.
